Professor Wolfhard Wegscheider

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Professor Wolfhard Wegscheider, a distinguished and valued member of the international analytical chemistry community.

As a dedicated member of Eurachem since its formation, Professor Wegscheider played a major role in promoting quality assurance in chemical analysis. His contributions to Eurachem were particularly significant.

Czech translation of 2nd edition of terminology guide available

Thanks to the work of our colleagues at Eurachem-CZ, the Eurachem Education and Training Working Group is pleased to announce the release of a new Czech translation of our guide “Terminology in Analytical Measurement: Introduction to VIM 3”. The guide discusses a selection of the concepts in VIM 3, focusing on those most likely to be encountered in analytical laboratories.

New Eurachem validation guide released

The Eurachem Method Validation working Group is pleased to announce the publication of the third edition of the Guide The Fitness for Purpose of Analytical Methods. This third edition is a thorough revision of the 2014 edition and includes guidance on the importance of fitness for purpose, how to carry out validation and verification studies, a discussion of performance characteristics and related topics and much more.

New leaflet on Equipment and System qualification

The Eurachem Analytical Equipment and Systems Qualification Working Group has published a new Information Leaflet, "Fitness for the intended use of analytical equipment and systems", introducing the role and handling of analytical equipment and systems in laboratories.

It is crucial to make sure that equipment is fit for its intended use ("qualified"), properly installed, operating correctly, stable and suitably calibrated. This new leaflet forms an introduction to topics being considered by the Analytical Equipment and Systems Qualification Working Group, including the ideas of equipment qualification and fitness for intended use of analytical equipment.

Survey launched on revision of Eurachem Guide on Quality Assurance for Research and Development and Non-routine Analysis

lab check sq 128The Guide: Quality Assurance for Research and Development and Non-routine Analysis is under review. As part of this process Eurachem is seeking feedback on particular challenges associated with quality assurance in a non-routine environment, and whether the Guide is still needed and should therefore be revised.

The Eurachem Sampling Uncertainty Working Group and the Method Validation Working group are pleased to announce the release of a new guide on "Validation of measurement procedures that include sampling". The new Guide is a supplement to existing Eurachem guidance on “The Fitness for Purpose of Analytical Methods” (FPAM) and “Measurement Uncertainty arising from Sampling”.

Performance Evaluation in Non-Quantitative Proficiency Testing - Survey Results

The Eurachem PT working group has published the results of a recent survey on methods of performance evaluation in non-quantitative Proficiency Testing.

The survey aimed to gather information about the performance evaluation of non-quantitative proficiency testing (PT) with a view to providing improved guidance on the topic, and support potential harmonisation of approaches to performance evaluation for this type of PT scheme.

New video on terminology in analytical measurement

The Eurachem Education and Training WG have published a short video on the importance of a common language in analytical chemistry.

The video describes why we need consistent terminology, discusses the importance of the JCM International Vocabulary of Metrology, and introduces the latest edition of the Eurachem Guide "Terminology in Analytical Measurement: Introduction to VIM 3 (2023)"
