5th International Workshop on Proficiency Testing (2005)
Following the success of previous workshops the EURACHEM Proficiency Testing Working Group organised the 5th Workshop on Proficiency Testing in Analytical Chemistry, Microbiology and Laboratory Medicine. One hundred and twenty delegates from twenty eight different countries met in Portorož, Slovenia, 25-27 September 2005.
Through a series of lectures and working group discussions, key topics on proficiency testing were addressed, which included:
- Current practice and future directions of PT/EQA [1 (Libeer)] [2 (Thompson)]
- Accreditation of PT/EQA providers [3 (Monnery)] [4 (Russell)] [5 (Ornemark)]
- Performance criteria used in PT/EQA [6 (Robouch)]
- PT/EQA and laboratory accreditation [7 (Fostel)]
- Comparability of PT/EQA schemes [8 (Boley)]
- PT/EQA and the internet [9 (Weykamp)]
- Pre and post analytical PT/EQA schemes [10 (Sandberg)]
The lectures and working group discussions were accompanied by over twenty posters addressing a range of issues concerned with proficiency testing. A well attended (over 60 delegates) training course on the practical implementation of uncertainty in PT was also held in conjunction with the workshop.
The lively debate and fruitful discussions coupled with good positive feedback reflected the benefits of the workshop. A special issue of Accreditation and Quality Assurance (Springer Verlag) is being prepared to cover keynote lectures, working group discussions and poster contributions. The issue is expected during spring 2006.
