A focus for analytical chemistry in Europe

About us

Eurachem is a network of organisations in Europe with the objective of establishing a system for the international traceability of chemical measurements and the promotion of good quality practices. Eurachem provides a forum for the discussion of common problems and for developing an informed and considered approach to both technical and policy issues. It provides a focus for analytical chemistry and quality related issues in Europe.

The joint EEE-PT Working Group has published a new Information Leaflet on "Interlaboratory Comparisons other than Proficiency testing". ISO/IEC 17025 requires a laboratory to participate in proficiency testing (PT) and/or to participate in interlaboratory comparisons (ILCs) other than PT. However, the Standard gives no guidance as to what these other ILCs might be, or indeed how they might compare in relation to PT. This new leaflet outlines the three main purposes of interlaboratory comparisons, explains how the different objectives affect the design of the comparison, and explains how the design affects the different studies' relevance for demonstrating laboratory performance. Thanks to the work of our colleagues at Eurachem Italia, the Method Validation Working Group is pleased to say that our two Supplementary Guides on "Planning and Reporting Method Validation Studies" and "Blanks in method validation" are now available in Italian, in a single volume. The Planning supplement provides guidance on the planning and reporting of validation studies, and is structured in the form of a template which can be used to assist with planning method validation. The supplement on blanks in method validation describes the different types of blank materials which may be used during method validation and gives guidance for situations where it may be difficult to obtain a suitable blank matrix. The new Italian translations can be downloaded together from our website at https://lnkd.in/dka4H8p

We're pleased to announce the availability of two additional translations of our guide on "Assessment of performance and uncertainty in qualitative chemical analysis". The new translations are in German and Farsi, thanks to hard work by our Eurachem colleagues in Germany and to CITAC colleagues in Iran. The Guide provides tools to help improve the quality of qualitative analysis and of their interpretation. In particular, it gives guidance on experimental and other strategies for estimating false response rates, which are fundamental to establishing reliability, and on expressions of confidence in qualitative analysis. All language versions of the guide can be downloaded from our website, at https://lnkd.in/e2nnyYnV.

Registration is open for our next training event, a two-day workshop on quality assurance in Nicosia in early March 2024. The event is jointly organised bythe Pancyprian Union of Chemists (PUC) and the Eurachem Education and Training Working Group. The programme is based around the main sections of the recently revised Eurachem Guide on Terminology in Analytical Measurement. The workshop will include sessions on terminology, validation, metrological traceability, internal quality control, external quality assurance (with emphasis on the new ISO/IEC 17043 standard) and quality assurance in qualitative analysis. The programme will also include an overview of publications on quality assurance, with an emphasis on recent revisions of Eurachem guides. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/eiU-QDcA

Thanks to the hard work of our colleagues in Italy, seven of our 2nd Edition Information Leaflets on aspects of proficiency testing are now additionally available in Italian. The new translations are for the second etisions of the leaflets: - How can Proficiency Testing help my laboratory? - Selecting the right proficiency testing scheme for my laboratory - Proficiency testing - How much, and how often? - Pre- and post-analytical proficiency testing - How to investigate poor performance in proficiency testing - Use of surplus Proficiency Test items - Let's call a PT scheme a PT scheme! https://lnkd.in/eJM87HMw
