Education and Training WG


Terms of Reference
  1. The Eurachem Education and Training Working Group has been established and will operate in accordance with the Constitution agreed in the EURACHEM Memorandum of Understanding.
  2. The Eurachem Education and Training Working Group will attempt to have representatives from each of the member states of Europe either as Active Members or as Associate Members*.
  3. The Eurachem Education and Training Working Group will elect a Chairperson who will serve for a period of 2 years with a possibility of serving for a further 2 years after which time a new Chairperson will normally be elected. A Vice-chairperson will be appointed by the Working Group to serve for a period of 2 years with possible extension for one further period. To preserve continuity the Chairperson and Vice-chairperson should not complete their term of office at the same time.
  4. The Eurachem Education and Training Working Group will collate and evaluate information on the state of education and training in analytical science in different countries. The Working Group members will promote the concepts and importance of training, in particular, with respect to the development of teaching materials and courses on quality management which emphasise metrology. Members will report on these activities at the annual meeting.
  5. The Eurachem Education and Training Working Group will disseminate information on training courses for professional analysts in the workplace which cover quality management with an emphasis on metrology.
  6. Education and Training Working Group will collaborate with other organisations having similar or complementary aims.
  7. The Eurachem Education and Training Working group will meet annually at the General Assembly and review progress of projects against the Work programme.

EURACHEM Education and Training Work Programme 2007-2010

1. Collate and evaluate information on the state of education and training in analytical science in different member states in particular with respect to the development of teaching aids and training materials on quality management which emphasise metrology.

2. Contribute to the development and delivery of education and training in quality management for both analytical scientists and the broader community by producing some freely available materials. Agreed programme for 2007-2008.
a. Interpretation of the revised 'VIM' for laboratories.
b. Produce examples suitable for training and/or teaching which support the guidelines already available for measurement uncertainty, method validation and traceability.
c. Produce material which can be used in university curricula to illustrate how the principles of ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 15189 can be implemented in a university laboratory.
d. Work up topics for an 8 hour programme for BSc students to meet the Eurocurriculum requirements Collaboration on projects will take place electronically between the annual meeting of the Working Group with the final drafts discussed at the annual meeting.

Each work package will have a group of members identified in the Minutes to carry the project forward.

3. Organise workshops in metrology in chemistry which bring together academic staff, industrial scientists, instrument manufacturers and students. First workshop in Athens May 2008.

4. Collaborate with other interested organisations such as EuCheMS, Eurolab, IRMM for TrainMic and AcadeMiC, LGC for VAM and MfB.
